Prague, bars restaurant & club guide > Bars in Prague
Beer is to Prague as wine is to France, as tequila is to Mexico, and vodka is to Russia. The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world. Demand an ice cold Pivo at one of the many Pivnice or Hosposa (classic bars and pubs frequented by locals).
Pilsner is the country’s crowning achievement in beer, Pilsner Urquell being one of the better known pilsners. Enjoy a real Budweiser from the Budweis region of Czech Republic- a far cry from the watered down American beer of the same name.
Czech Republic also produces wines from the Moravian region, mainly reds which are well worth trying. For a potent after dinner digestive, Becherovka and Slivovice (plum brandy) are staples in nearly every restaurant.
Bars and pubs in the centre are more cosmopolitan and sophisticated, catering for an international crowd.
